How we see and do it.
Leadership team gatherings (otherwise known as: meetings, offsites, summits, retreats) are the single most valuable way for your team to get a focused amount of time to gel, vision, strategize, plan, and execute against your organization's imperatives.
Leadership development (otherwise known as: training, learning and development, skills-building) is a critical talent play required to continually evolve and uplevel your leaders’ skills and capabilities - a flywheel effect necessary for your company’s ongoing ability to compete.
And, yet, these two imperatives fail to have a return on investment time and time again.
In gatherings, the time isn’t often structured well enough to achieve the necessary outcomes. There aren’t well-understood or reinforced norms on how we work together. There are differing and missing leadership skills and capabilities across the group. There isn’t enough debate and nudging happening to spur new thinking. There’s no bow tied on the most substantive issues. And perhaps, worse, there’s no accountability for what you’ll do tomorrow once you’re back with your teams.
In development, it isn’t often attached to real business situations nor delivered just-in-time to coincide with the actual work of the business our leaders need to accomplish.
